Privacy Policy
Last updated 16 June 2026 · DreamCatcher for iOS
DreamCatcher ("the app", "we", "us") is published by SBM Development SRL. A dream journal is one of the most private records a person can keep, and this policy explains — plainly — how the app treats yours. The guiding principle is simple: your dreams live on your device, and we keep our hands off them.
01The short version
No account. No ads. No selling your data. Your dreams are stored on your iPhone and never leave it unless you choose to turn on iCloud sync. The only time any dream text is sent off your device is when you personally ask for an AI interpretation.
02What we collect
DreamCatcher does not require you to create an account, and we do not ask for your name, email, or phone number to use the app.
Information you create
- The dreams you write or dictate, along with any titles, tags, symbols, emotions, sleep-quality ratings, people, places, and reflection notes you add.
- A locally chosen display name, if you enter one during onboarding (used only to greet you on your device).
Information we do not collect
- We do not run advertising trackers or third-party analytics that profile you.
- We do not collect your contacts, photo library, or precise location.
- We do not build an advertising profile or sell information to data brokers.
03On-device storage
Your dream entries are stored locally on your device using Apple's on-device database. They remain on your iPhone under the protection of iOS, and are included in your encrypted device and iCloud backups in the same way your other app data is. We, as the developer, do not have a copy of your journal and cannot read your dreams.
04AI interpretation
AI interpretation is an optional feature you trigger manually, dream by dream. When you tap to interpret a dream, the text of that dream is sent over an encrypted connection to our AI processing provider (Anthropic) to generate symbols, perspectives, and reflection prompts, which are then returned to your device and stored locally with the entry.
- Only the dream text you choose to interpret is transmitted — not your whole journal.
- The interpretation is returned to your device and saved there; we do not retain a separate copy tied to your identity.
- Our AI provider processes the text to generate a response and does not use it to train its models on your data under our agreement.
- If you never use the interpretation feature, no dream text ever leaves your device.
05Voice & speech
If you dictate a dream, speech-to-text is performed using on-device speech recognition. The app captures audio only while you are actively recording, converts it to text on your device, and does not store or upload the audio recording. Only the resulting text becomes part of your entry. Microphone and speech-recognition permissions are requested by iOS and can be revoked anytime in Settings.
06iCloud sync
If you enable iCloud sync, your journal is synchronised across your own Apple devices using your personal iCloud account. This data is stored in your iCloud, governed by Apple's privacy terms — not on our servers. Turning sync off keeps your journal on a single device.
08Retention & deletion
Because your journal lives on your device, you control retention. Deleting an entry removes it from your device (and from iCloud if sync is on). Deleting the app removes its local data. Dream text sent for interpretation is processed transiently to generate a response and is not retained by us in a form linked to you.
09Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under the EU/EEA GDPR), you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete personal data. Because your dreams are stored locally and under your control, you can exercise most of these directly within the app. For anything else, contact us and we will help.
10Children
DreamCatcher is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
11Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
